Trip to Hawaii

September 22. Wednesday. Woke to a slight drizzle.  It didn't last but about 1/4 of the day.  Rusty took the day off and we went to the beach.  I had a hard time walking on the sand and felt bad because I could not keep my balance.  Sat in a chair while Kendra and the others went into the water but the waves were a little large so they only swam and a little snorkeling.  Later we went to the tide pool and I watched again while Kendra snorkeled.  We then walked to a shave ice place and ate shaved ice over ice cream.  It was so good.  I paid for dinner to be brought in.  Their landlord is a chef at a restaurant so we had Chinese food.  We were so tired that Kendra and I fell asleep about 7 and so they went out for the evening while we slept.  They always put their little girl down about 7 to absolute darkness and quiet while we sometimes spent our time playing games on the porch.
September 23. Thursday.  Rusty took off another day and we went snorkeling again.  Susanna had a doctor's appointment during this time.  We then went kayaking and Rusty had a flat board.  He and his wife and his daughter were on it.  We rented a kayak and Kendra and I rowed up a beautiful river and then watched the animal life and foliage.  It was a great time for us all.  We played games and I retired to bed early again.
September 24. Friday.  Kendra drove us to the Polynesian Center about noon.  We had a good time all day.  We saw the canoe pageants, the shows, went on a canoe trip and ate dinner at the restaurant.  We then went to the night show.
September 25. Saturday. Rusty took us sailing so they could go snorkeling.  They will have another chance because we didn't see any dolphins and that was guaranteed or another trip.  It was fun to see them all in the water.  Rusty and Susanna had to take turns because the baby didn't do well and would still not let us touch her.  I finally got to tend her for a short time but because she tried to climb and I touched her and she screamed until Rusty came back on board.  They gave complementary drinks and snacks.  I sat on the front of the boat as they all went into the water.  You had to be able to swim to go in.  It was interesting because it was a sail and motor boat.  The front was divided to let the swimmers down into the water through the center of the front.  They had a lot of fun there.  Kendra is in her element.
We then went back home and Susanna put Hainlei down for her nap and Rusty took us to see where he works and how he does his job.  His job is to scientifically see the corn grown with the correct amount of pollen so as to produce proper seed to be shipped around the world.  He loves the work.  He calls himself a farmer.  They use very large machines and he drives a truck at work but takes a moped to work.  It was so interesting to see the space between the crops so as not to have cross pollination that would ruin the crop.  What an interesting career for him.
We then went to a barbeque that the Elders had instead of the Women's Conference.  The food was good and the company was good but they didn't stay long but came home and we went to bed while Rusty took Susanna out to a movie for her birthday.  She brought back a couple leis from him and had me wear one to church the next day.
September 26. Sunday.  Took another cold shower and then went to church.  They had the Primary Sacrament meeting program and they gave us leis for visitors to Relief Society.  It was interesting to note that they had an open house coming for the Temple and some time was taken to note that they had to be signed up for the tours because of the parking around the temple.  They also needed help to man the positions for the open house of the newly renovated temple to be rededicated in November.
We then after dinner went on a walk up into the canyon behind their place.  It was wonderful to see the foliage and deep roots of the trees lining the pathway.  It was a great time but I forgot my camera.  Hanalei pushed a stroller and we pushed her a little also.  It was fun to see her walk and enjoy.  What a beautiful place for a Sunday walk.  We went back to their place and Susanna taught me how to start a blog and then we played games again.
September 27. Monday.  We went to the Waimae Valley and walked up to top.  They have a water fall there that you used to be able to dive from but not anymore. But they would let you swim there.  Kendra insisted that I should not walk back so she called security and they gave me a ride back down while they walked down much faster that they would have had I walked.  Then Kendra drove us back to the Polynesia Center.  We could go back into the center free this time because of the time last Friday.  We went to other shows, the canoe trip again and parade.  We just enjoyed a leisurely time this time.  Kendra was able to get in some shopping and I got in people watching.  What a nice time.  We got home very late and I was tired and so they played games again.
September 28. Tuesday.  Went back to the tide pool this time in a top and shorts and I was able to get into the water and sit on a rock.  The tide came in and I was washed over so I changed rocks but enjoyed the water again.  It was fun to sit there.  I should have done this much sooner.  I took a nap after lunch and then we drove to Dole Pineapple Factory and took pictures and had an ice cream treat.  We played games again.
September 29. Wednesday.  This day was my treat.  I wanted to go to Honolulu so Susanna drove us down the coast to Honolulu but got lost in the traffic and so I saw Honolulu up one street as we drove past to Waikiki.  That was plenty for me.  We then were going to a museum but could not find it so went to Hanauma Bay.  We walked down to the bay and then Kendra went snorkeling again.  She had a great time and Susanna and Hanalei had fun in the water.  It was a great time.  We then paid to have a tram take us back up and then drove home on the other side of the island and I loved that very much.  We bought lunch and I had a malt that almost spilled and I finally won over the baby.  She liked me by the end of the day.  I don't push on but wait.  They stopped to have another shave ice but I was full of the malt.  We got home and played games and Kendra bought us another meal from the Chinese place.  Rusty then drove us back to Honolulu to go home.  This flight was a long one for 6 hours in the dark and I didn't get much sleep but we arrived the next day at 9.  I caught a cold this day and my nose was running all day
